Substance Abuse Treatment In New Jersey

Substance abuse runs rampant in New Jersey, so it's not difficult to find people addicted to alcohol, prescription medication, and a number of illicit substances. Alcohol abuse and addiction to opioids are a primary concern, along with statistics associated with overdoses to a drug like heroin being three times more in comparison to the overall national average. Statistics show that over 14,000 individuals died from drug overdose over the past 25 years.

Despite these worrisome figures, New Jersey runs a series of effective drug treatment and addiction management programs. A whooping 70,000 individuals benefited from drug treatment facilities in 2015, this number reaching 76,000 in 2016. Even though this shows that more and more people are seeking drug and substance abuse treatment, it also shows that substance abuse in New Jersey is on the rise.

Being able to admit to having an addiction is one of the first things a person must do before they get any type of help. The state of New Jersey may not be big on the map, but it's got over a thousand different treatment and rehabilitation centers, so addicts have a wide variety of options to pick from. There are difference between the treatment centers because some of the centers receive funding from the state while others do not and must be paid for privately.

While denial is the biggest reason people don't seek help, treatment cost is an incredibly close second. The good news is that there are a few medical insurance companies that will take on the cost of a rehabilitation stay for an individual who needs it. There are also a number of programs that can help cover the cost after the fact, though this doesn't help if you don't have the money in the first place.

Another option is going through non-profit establishments who offer treatment either at no cost or for little expense. Many of the facilities that are covered by state funds provide services without charging clients, but there are times when these treatment centers have lengthy wait lists due to the number of people struggling with addiction. Someone looking for a way to afford treatment could always check out the government grants that are offered.

When a person is trying to find a reliable rehab center to stay at while in New Jersey, they must consider a few important things. Not every facility, clinic, or center offers that same treatment program. The only way to know what is offered at a specific facility is to do research on the place.

How long the stay is can be an important factor. Many treatment facilities have mandatory stay times, as well as mandatory leave times. It's also a good idea to learn what the additional care, activities, and amenities available are. Ensure that investigations are conducted about the staff at a facility, their expertise and credentials, along with the ratio of staff-to-patient.

The person who is seeking help needs to find a place to get help where he or she feels accepted. This is due to the fact that a treatment center that helps a patient re-integrate into society after rehabilitation will reduce the chances of a relapse.

Various resources are available for those struggling with addiction in New Jersey, including anonymous programs for those addicted to alcohol and narcotics as well as the Rehab Hotline.
